Cash Application Representative


Maintains and posts insurance, self- pay, and pro-bill accounts to insure accurate and timely payment. Posts denials and correspondence. Reviews and resolves accounts for correct balances.


Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Works assigned patient accounts and rejections within department guidelines. Thoroughly reviews all outstanding charges and submits supporting documentation per payer and departmental guidelines. ERA/ EFT and manual banking files are maintained and completed daily as required.
  • Takes initiative independently to resolve a variety of claim matters. Thoroughly reviews all open accounts on a regular basis. Reviews patient accounts and determines appropriate action needed to post and collect for additional payments. Makes outbound calls to insurance companies to resolve payment discrepancies, Document all activities.
  • Posts ERA/ EFT bank files, manual insurance checks, credit cards, cash and patient payments timely and accurately.
  • Resolves and researches out of balance conditions and ensures that each batch balances.
  • Reports daily, weekly and monthly status reports. Prepares other special and periodic reports as requested.
  • Follows all Compliance protocols paying attention to HIPAA and other federal guidelines
  • Other duties as requested and/or needed by Management


  • HS degree or equivalent


  • Minimum 2-3 years healthcare experience required
  • Previous healthcare revenue cycle experience required in a healthcare or similar environment
  • Medical terminology/billing experience required. Knowledge of medical billing, third party payers, Medicare, Medicaid, CPT IV and ICD10 codes, and HIPPA as well as medical terminology, insurance benefits and appeal processes experience
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Flexible and able to function expertly in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be a team player and work in an accurate and timely manner

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
